Bio

My name is Lila Carruthers and I am a student at the University of Arizona pursuing a master's degree in data science. I received my bachelor's degree in geography with an emphasis in GIS from the University of Arizona as well. Currently, I work as a data analyst full time and am always seeking opportunities to continue building on my foundational GIS knowledge and skills.

Most recently I took GIST 604B, which is an Open Source GIS course. As a part of this class, I was introduced to many new tools I had not previously used or encountered. Check out some of my coursework here!

Projects

The first project we completed was an introduction to QGIS. I followed a series of tutorials that guided me through how to work with map projections, changing the style of layers, perfoming joins, and much more! The results of this assignment can be found here.

The second project was an overview of how to use Pandas, GeoPandas, and Rasterio to manipulate data and perform geospatial analysis. This project can be found here.

The third project was an overview of PostGIS. We learned how to perform SQL queries and leverage the results to answer several analysis questions. That project is linked here.

The fifth project for the class was to create a basic web application using Leaflet. After gathering data, I worked through visualizing it on a Leaflet map and customizing the web map details. The project can be found here and the map can be seen here.
